Case study of Nirmal Chepang
Name: Nirmal Chepang
Age: 12 years old
Nirmal Chepang’s father is handicapped and he cannot work and carry any loads to earn for their living. His Father broke his leg when he was felling trees. Nirmal grew up in a family that depends on agriculture, and his father and mother work all day long to feed the family for a year. The striking plight of the harvest not being sufficient to feed themselves for 6 months hits them hard. This compels them to go earn through daily wage works such as working in a cement factory, construction PARMA system etc. Due to unproductive, un-irrigable and infertile land, subsistence agriculture results famine in her family. Despite growing in a struggling family, Nirmal is good in his studies. He performs better when he gets opportunities. He is studying in Grade 5 at Shree Rastriya Prathimik Vidhyalaya and achieves a fairly good ranking in his class. There is no proper direction after he passes Grade 5 in his village since his parents cannot afford to continue his education. So, Self Sustaining Campaign has decided to support Nirmal in continuing his education after Grade 5.
